Universal design is a design approach that aims to create products, services, and environments that are accessible and usable by all individuals, regardless of their abilities or circumstances, without requiring special adaptations or modifications. When done well, it seamlessly integrates into the overall design of a space and is almost imperceptible. Universal design is also a valuable tool for those who wish to age in place, allowing them to remain in their homes as they grow older.

What is CAPS?

The Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) program is designed to equip professionals with the necessary technical, business management, and customer service skills to succeed in the rapidly growing home modification industry, specifically for aging-in-place modifications. Developed in partnership with the AARP, NAHB Research Center, and NAHB 50+ Housing Council, the program provides comprehensive, market-specific information on how to effectively work with older adults and provide remodeling services tailored to their needs. The program aims to empower professionals to remodel homes in a way that enables older adults to age in place comfortably and safely, without sacrificing their independence or quality of life. With a focus on practical skills and market-specific knowledge, CAPS certification is highly respected within the industry and is a valuable asset for professionals looking to excel in the field of home modifications for aging in place.

What is aging in place?

Aging in place refers to the ability of individuals to continue living in their homes safely, comfortably, and independently, regardless of their age, income, or ability level. It means the joy of residing in a familiar environment throughout the aging process and relishing the familiar daily routines and special occasions that enrich our lives. It also implies the comfort of being able to call one’s residence a “home” for a lifetime.

As a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designer, our primary objective is to ensure that your home is as safe and comfortable as possible, enabling you to live independently in your own home for as long as possible.

Creating a comfortable and safe living space involves more than just installing grab bars in the shower or adding a ramp to the front door. There are numerous things that can be done to enhance the quality of life for everyone. We encourage you to contact us so that we can make your home life as fulfilling as possible.
